Skepticism is a Good Thing

April 30, 2013

I love a skeptic. In fact, I am one myself. A wise person does not hitch their wagon to every new thing that comes down the pike. Discernment is important.

There is a difference between discernment and bull headedness though. And that is a very important difference.

We’ve all heard the saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

I’ve got some powerful truths to teach you, And…. You will need to make an effort.  Examining your skepticism and getting control over it will be a first step. (Hang it up in the closet for a little while. You can always bring it back out if need be…. But I promise you will not be wanting it back with regards to this.)

The reason? Once your mind is open to experimenting with these new ideas, you will prove to yourself, in your own life, that they work.

Give each new possibility a chance, just a fair chance to change your mind.  This you must do, because if, while being a skeptic you insist on also being bull headed, learning something new, no matter how valuable, will be impossible for you.

You will not be expected to believe anything that you are unable to prove out in your own experience. So do the work, personal work. There is no scientific data to swallow hook, line and sinker.  You alone will be the judge.

Learn some new Laws of the Universe, Natural Laws. They are not really new, just new to you.

At first, no matter what you see change in your life, they still may be hard to believe, you may want to think it’s an accident that your life has suddenly started to work. However, as time goes on and you continue to act and think in the new way, you will see the consistent results over and over again until you can no longer deny that something has changed.

Years ago, I was at a lecture by Wayne Dwyer. The one thing in his speech that stuck with me was that once an individual proves something out in their own life, from that point on, no one will ever be able to tell them that it is impossible. He said, “No one can ever convince me that a person cannot go from rags to riches, because I did it myself. I left the orphanage with nothing and became wealthy.”

There is no proof more powerful than proving it to yourself.

So why isn’t everyone doing it? For the very reason we have been discussing, most people hold on very, very tightly to their original beliefs.

Changing your mind is the most important change you will ever make.

The very hardest part about changing your mind is the first step. That first step is simply a willingness to consider and then examine a new way of being.

Beyond the Flat Earth

April 29, 2013

There are a multitude of stories told about how, thru generations, the same action has been performed the same way and yet no one will have the faintest idea why. All involved had the illusion that it was ‘just the way it was supposed to be done.’  After doing the research as to where it all started, it was based on the facts at that time…. maybe 100 years ago, and it has absolutely no validity today.

The problem with our long held beliefs is that they may not even be true. And yet, most of us hold onto them as if our lives depended on it.  Actually, a happy life depends on taking a good look at the old stories, discovering the ones that are just illusions, dropping them, and replacing them with the truth.

Here’s an easy example. The earth was always round, but for centuries, it was believed to be flat. That mistaken belief did not change the earth one bit. It remained round regardless of people’s beliefs.

Just like the flat earth example, we can put on blinders and refuse to listen to the reason. But the truth is still the truth.  We are affected by it whether we believe it or not.

The results you are getting in your life are the result of Natural Laws.  Natural Laws as real as gravity are constantly at work. They go mostly unnoticed by humanity; Many are only now being proven out in the scientific community. However, you don’t have to wait for science to catch up. These laws, once you know about then, and start to consciously cooperate with them, will change everything about the way your life works.

So why not wake up and smell the coffee instead of pretending you have no nose?

Actually the hardest part of learning them will be your willingness to open your mind to see the true workings of the world just beyond the flat earth.

“No Wonder I’m Still single. I Live in a Convent”

April 28, 2013

Several years ago, while joking, I said that to a friend.

However, it was true. I had been divorced for 16 years with no good prospects. Considering that, isn’t it interesting that my house used to be the home of the nuns who taught at the Catholic school here in town.

If you have been following my work, you know that I believe we play a huge part in our circumstances. Whether we are conscious of it or not, the Universe is responding to us. That thought can lead to all kinds of fascinating introspection.

See, I think God has an amazing sense of humor and I have a lot of fun watching him interact in my life. I think he is getting a big kick out of me and it finally occurring to me the history of my house.

When I bought this house, I certainly wasn’t thinking about its past inhabitants. (In-habit –ants.)

Ha Ha…. Even that is funny.

Of my own free will, I had purchased it 5 year earlier. It was my hide away as I wrote “The Baglady’s Guide to Elegant Living.” I could see the purpose in being alone then. I needed focus. Indeed, I had an ‘elegant life’ in this big old Victorian.

After trying to sell the house to not avail, it appeared, thru the lack a a buyer, that my time at the convent was not over.  So a couple of years ago, I decided to make it into 3 apartments.

At that time, I moved into the part of the house that had been added on right before I bought it. I rented out the original convent.

That was about 2 years ago. And what do you suppose happened since then? A wonderful man came and swept me off my feet.

It has not escaped me that almost on que, I moved out of the convent and I found a man.

You may think this a mere coincidence, but you must admit it is an interesting one… at the very least.

If you watch your own life, you will see that yours is also full of many coincidences. After awhile, there are so many that they cease to look like ‘just chance.’

Pay attention. Your life really is talking to you.

Step Back and get in the Flow

April 27, 2013

Sometimes I am just too close to the problem when I’m in a workaholic mode. I might hit a block in the project I’m working on, but my tendency is often to keep trying to break thru it, rather than step back and let the answer emerge.

Can’t we all be so hard headed sometimes? We can be so sure we have the right answer that we can’t see the real truth standing in front of us.

In my best moments, I know the truth.

Life is meant to flow.

On vacations, we just naturally fall into that mode simply by relaxing and allowing ourselves to take a ‘vacation’ from our perceived problems. Miraculously, that different perspective allows new possibilities and solutions to arise.

Just changing your mindset from one of obsessing to wondering can make all the difference.

Take finances for instance. If you are one of the millions of people in America today who are upside down in mortgage and credit card debt, step back. Consider a new way of thinking.

In fact, to truly solve that problem, you absolutely must come to a new way of thinking.

Financial problems are not really about money in the first place. Something happened long before a person finds themselves that position and it happened inside their brain.

Your thoughts about money dictate what you buy and how you will pay for it. And, believe it or not, even before that, your thoughts about happiness and fulfillment are where it really started.

People buy all those things, the bigger house and the newer car, because they think those ‘things’ will make them happy.  Once they realize the stress that came along with the out of control spending was not worth it, there is a wonderful opportunity to change and look at life through new eyes.

Changing your mind is the most important change you will ever make.

The predicament was really caused by the old mindset. ‘Things’ are not really what make us happy. We need to find self esteem inside ourselves. Then make purchases with financial intelligence instead of based on emotion. With that new found knowledge, long term solution is at hand.

Growing Money Trees

April 26, 2013

Have you ever had someone say to you “Money doesn’t grow on trees?”

I know my parents used to say that to me when I wanted the latest new outfit or needed money to go to the city pool.

You know, how we personally feel about money is transferred, through our consciousness, directly to our children. Yikes!

Of course we have budgets to keep in mind and certainly keeping the kids spending habits in check is important. But, how about a new and more positive twist on the old money stories?

Instead of telling them, in essence, that you ‘can’t afford it’, help them to develop their creativity with a different word pattern.

Try statements like these.

“How could we find the money to get that new outfit?”

“What can you do to earn what you need to go to the the movies this weekend?”

Helping put a personal value on what your children want is a win-win for both of you. It inspires creativity, teaches them some personal accountability and shows them how to build their own ‘Money Tree’ from the ground – up.

Recognizing the Gifts

April 25, 2013

Isn’t it true? Most of us live our lives forward and understand the meaning of them only when looking back.

While I was spending years railing at God for keeping me trapped in a life I hated, he was giving me multiple avenues out. I didn’t notice. I was too busy being sure that it was going to look a certain way. My way.

In my mind, when I exited my living hell, I would be debt-free, all my facilities leases would be at their ends, and all my company’s ongoing catalog contracts would be completed. On top of that, I would have a nice nest egg and my employees would all be perfectly taken care of.

Immediately this reminds me of the saying, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.”

Now in the retrospect of my mind, He wasn’t laughing. God was just looking at me with compassion, moving His head gently back and forth thinking, “Dina, Dina, Dina…”

It took a long time. I got the ball bat to the head over and over because I was so dense as to not see all the gifts that were being laid at my feet; gifts I walked over as if they were nothing… because the wrapping paper was all wrong.

To use the gift analogy, I was so sure that my gift would be wrapped in red paper with gold ribbon. Instead, I was continually given beautiful royal blue packages with metallic silver ribbon. Because they looked so different, I kept refusing to accept them.  And all along, the blue box was the answer to my dreams.

Now looking back, I can see that the Universe had a much better plan all along, but I was blinded by my own ideas.

I’m smarter now, my experience has taught me to change.  I have learned to live life consciously while moving forward, accepting all my gifts as I go.

Characteristics of Cooperation

April 24, 2013

Yesterday I wrote about the Cooperation Mindset. Today, I’ve provided a list of characteristics indicative of those who practice it.

The way truly successful people think is every bit as important as what they do. In fact, it is the engine that drives the train.

 MOTIVATING FACTORS

  • They see opportunity everywhere
  • They are team builders and team players
  • They know everyone has wisdom to share
  • They work cooperatively, not competitively
  • They operate in Win-Win methodology
  • They understand the laws of money
  • They sincerely want success for everyone

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • They look ordinary
  • They are generous
  • They are grateful
  • They laugh easily
  • They feel blessed
  • They know how to love
  • They appreciate what they have
  • Their cup is at least half full

The Cooperation Mindset

April 23, 2013

Cooperation has at it’s root, abundance, that there is always enough for everyone. It is up to us to see that abundance and share it with the world.

It seems like most of the time, our real ulterior motive is to have our own needs met. And, admit it or not, we attempt to seek out those who will be the most influential in helping us meet those goals; To an extent, ignoring all others.

I’d like to challenge you to try something new. Become part of a new paradigm. Next time you attend a networking event, go with the sole intent of trying to give as much as you can give.    Go to Give!

Drop all expectation of what you could receive and, instead, see how many people we can help find the things they are seeking.

Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I wholeheartedly agree.

Consider such a gesture and then imagine what it would be like to be the recipient of that kind of gift. Wouldn’t it feel great to be approached with that kind of generosity? Both the giving and the receiving are sides of this paradigm as rewarding!

Sounds like a fairytale world, doesn’t it? That we would not have to fight to be heard? Not have to push ourselves and our agenda……. But instead, everyone involved sincerely wants to help each other.

I found that and now, having seen it work,  I’m spoiled.

There is an international organization, CEO Space, that practices this technique on a huge scale.  In order to join, your initial agreement is that you come with the commitment to help as many people as you can to get what they want. And… you promise to think bigger than yourself. You pull out the stops in order to help others.

When you greet another member for the first time, you ask them “What’s your project and what do you need next?” With every person coming together with the same intent, it creates the perfect example of the ‘Cooperation Mindset.’

Everything Changes Everything

April 22, 2013

It’s a simple truth, but have you ever stopped to think about it?

Often times, people are skeptical of such rash statements. They jump to conclusions without taking time to ponder them.

With most common sense issues, it does not take a PHD to see the truth. Every little decision you make affects the rest of your life.

I suppose it could be perceived as just too much to deal with if a person then became obsessive about making the exact right choice every moment of the day. But I’m not suggesting that you do that.

If you are in touch with your intuition, you can ‘free flow’ according to your instincts. For example: You normally take a particular route to work, but today you just feel like taking a different way. You follow you gut.

The timing of every car on every street in your entire city is affected by the route you take to work. Everything is part of this huge domino effect.

You stops and starts from traffic lights will be altered.  All the other cars on the road are also affected. The exact moment you arrive at work will be different. You will sit down at your desk and start to move papers at a different time. The changes go on and on.

When you think about it, it’s kind of cool, isn’t it?

You might be asking… “But what’s this all mean to me?”

Every word you speak also changes everything. It builds up or cuts down another. It shows love of indifference. Your interaction affects the other person. And they go on to impact the next person they meet. And so on and so on and so on

These seem like such inconsequential things until you bring them into awareness. Once you look deeply into the truth you can see that every little thing you do has the power to change the world.

The 5 Second Answer

April 21, 2013

Because most of the time people do not pay any attention to their random thoughts or wishes, they don’t realize that many times the answers come within moments.

Several years ago I was in a strange city. It was 10 minutes before the post offices closed for the day and I needed to get a letter out that evening.  I was frantically driving down the street.  Desperately, I cried out, “Where is a post office?????”

Within 200 yards of my plea, I saw one of those rotating black signs with the red letters streaming across it indicating that there was a post office in the shopping center 1 block down.   That REALLY happened!

Things like that happen all the time. Yesterday I gave you instructions about how to see that in your own life.

Big, important things like the post office stick in your mind and you remember them as rare occurrences. But… I promise you. They are NOT rare. Your thoughts are becoming manifest. You are asking and the answers are coming constantly….on little, everyday things.

I was just looking at my Facebook page a few minutes ago. It crossed my mind that I had not seen any of my cousin’s photos posted lately and I made a mental not to go to her page before I signed off.

Then I went on seeing what was on my page. I scrolled down two posts and there were 4 new pictures she had posted today. (Thought to answer…. About 5 seconds)

Coincidence, you think?

Yes, you may think that now, but if you do the exercise I posted yesterday, you will see that it is not coincidence.

With your thoughts, you are asking the Universe for answers and the Universe IS answering!

Spirit is constantly in communication with us. The only problem is that, most of the time, we are not noticing it.

Watch your thoughts and your life will be transformed.
